Newtown

Newtown, Yardley and the lower Bucks river towns

Washington's army crossed the Delaware on Christmas night of 1776 from what is now Washington Crossing Historic Park and marched on Trenton the next morning. Newtown's historic district keeps buildings from the colonial and early federal years, and Yardley's river-town streets are almost as old. Edward Hicks, the Quaker painter of The Peaceable Kingdom, lived and worked in Newtown, and the older houses in town still give up the occasional 19th century coin: a large cent, a Seated Liberty quarter, an Indian Head cent worn nearly smooth.

Most of the coins we see here come from newer houses. Lower Bucks grew fast after World War II, with Levittown built in the 1950s and subdivisions spreading through Newtown, Yardley, Langhorne and Richboro in the decades after. People who moved into those homes in mid-career are now in their eighties and nineties, and their children are often the ones who call us.

Those households saved a lot of silver. Morgan and Peace dollars, rolls of pre-1965 quarters, Kennedy halves pulled from change in the late 1960s and Silver Eagles bought every year since 1986 make up the usual mix. Carson City Morgans and high-grade Peace dollars get set aside for collector pricing, and the rest is paid on its silver weight.

Bullion is the other big category in lower Bucks. Gold Eagles, Krugerrands, Canadian Maple Leafs and silver bars bought in the 1980s and later are tested and weighed on a calibrated scale, then priced on the live spot price. A one ounce Gold Eagle is 22K and weighs 33.93 grams while still holding a full troy ounce of gold, and we show you that math at the table so the numbers on your offer make sense.

Newtown and Yardley are quiet places, and most sellers would rather not haul a heavy box of silver into a strip mall on Route 1 or ship it off to a mail-in buyer they have never met. We work by appointment only and set the place when you book, and larger collections and estates can ask about a home visit. If you accept the written offer you are paid the same visit, and if you decline you keep every coin and the list. Gold jewelry and dental gold can be added to the same offer, sorted by karat and weighed.

Questions

Selling coins and gold in Newtown

Do you buy from Levittown and Langhorne, or only Newtown?

We buy from across lower Bucks County, including Levittown, Langhorne, Yardley, Washington Crossing and Richboro. Meetings are by appointment, set when you book, and owners of larger estates can ask about a home visit. The evaluation is free and carries no obligation to sell.

How do you price a tube of Silver Eagles?

Each American Silver Eagle holds one troy ounce of .999 silver, so bullion coins are priced on the live spot price. Proof Silver Eagles and certain dates may have collector demand above their silver, and we sort those out first. The count, weight and price all appear on your written offer.

Can I get paid the same day?

You can. If you accept the written offer, you are paid at the same visit by cash or check, or by wire for larger sales. Bring a government-issued photo ID. If you would rather think it over, keep the coins and the list and call us when you are ready.
