Wilmington
Bullion, gold and silver dollars from the Brandywine
Swedish colonists landed at the Rocks on the Christina River in 1638 and built Fort Christina, the start of the New Sweden colony. Old Swedes Church, finished in 1699, still holds services in the city.
In 1802 E. I. du Pont built gunpowder mills on the Brandywine, and the company and the family shaped northern New Castle County for the next two centuries. Their estates, Winterthur and Nemours among them, sit in the chateau country northwest of the city. Downtown, the banks and corporate offices around Rodney Square, named for Caesar Rodney and his ride to vote for independence in 1776, brought in another wave of executives and lawyers.
That history shows up in the coins we see. Households in Trolley Square, the Highlands, Wawaset Park and Forty Acres, and out in Greenville, Hockessin, Pike Creek and Brandywine Hundred, often bought metal as savings. Gold Eagles, Gold Buffalos, Maple Leafs and Krugerrands come out of home safes, along with silver bars and tubes of Silver Eagles. The Buffalo and the Maple Leaf are 24K, while the Eagle and the Krugerrand are 22K and still hold a full troy ounce of gold. Bullion is priced on weight and purity against the live spot price, so we test and weigh every piece where you can watch. Silver Eagles have held one troy ounce of .999 silver since 1986.
Older Wilmington families tend to have U.S. gold and silver dollars as well. Pre-1933 double eagles, eagles and half eagles are 90% gold, and Morgan and Peace dollars are 90% silver, but a coin's date, mint mark and grade can lift it well above melt. A CC Morgan or a scarce-date Saint-Gaudens is priced as a collector coin. A worn common date is priced as metal, and the written offer shows which is which.
Many of the Delaware calls we get come from families who have lived near the Brandywine for generations and are now downsizing. We do not keep a counter in Wilmington. Every meeting is private and set when you book, and a family settling a larger estate near the Brandywine or out toward Newark, Delaware can ask about a home visit. Bring a government-issued photo ID if you plan to sell. If you accept, you are paid at that visit, by wire for a larger sale if you prefer, and if you decline, you keep the coins and the list.

Questions
Selling coins and gold in Wilmington
Do you buy gold bars and Gold Eagles in Wilmington?
We do. We buy gold and silver bars, rounds and bullion coins such as Gold Eagles, Buffalos, Maple Leafs and Krugerrands. Each piece is tested without damage and weighed on a calibrated scale, and the offer follows the live spot price for the metal.
Can a Delaware estate sell to a buyer based in Philadelphia?
It can. We buy from sellers in Wilmington and across northern New Castle County. We set the meeting place privately when you call, and larger estates can ask about a home visit. Bring a government-issued photo ID, and call 215-798-9204 to start.
How are larger sales paid?
If you accept the written offer, you are paid at that same visit. Smaller sales are usually cash or check, and larger sales can be paid by wire. If you decline, you keep every coin and bar along with the item-by-item list.
